Once you have started reading your novel or memoir, take some time to share your choice with classmates. Which book did you choose, and why did you choose it? What are your initial thoughts on the character or storyline?

I chose The Chosen because Mrs. Bolin suggested it for me. She thinks the theme of traditional values verses modern values would be relevant to me. She assured me that the book doesn't bash on the traditional values and that's why I chose this book over the others.
ReplyDeleteThe book I chose was Jane Eyre because I've always heard it was a good book, I know Jane has a strong character, and Emily suggested it to me. It would've been between Jane Eyre and Emma anyway, so that made my decision easier.
ReplyDeleteThe book i chose is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings mostly because my mom had the book and suggested it to me because she knows I like reading about people's life. Maya has lived a hard life and I'm interested in what has happened in her life that shaped her the way she is today. So far the story line is sad but interesting.
ReplyDeleteI chose The Bean Trees because Mrs. Bolin suggested it. The book is about adventure and being open-minded. I am a fun-loving girl and enjoy being put in new situations and learning new things. Also, I believe I am open-minded. I am excited to read this book!!!
ReplyDeleteI chose the book The Chosen. I decided on this book mostly because it was the only one out of the list that the Lansing library had. After starting the book, I am enjoying the story and I am happy with my choice. It seems like this book will be relevant to me.
ReplyDeleteI chose the Catcher in the Rye because I am skeptical and uncertain at this time in my life. Holden seems to be trying to figure out where he fits in in life and where to go. I think I can relate very well with his feelings and personality.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the Catcher in the Rye because I heard the book is considered a classic but I never knew what it was about. Curiosity got me. I am not a huge fan of Holden but I can definitely see how the book was written in a teenager's perspective. The book has a very strong voice and mood to it, which I appreciate.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings because my mom said that it would be really good book that I would connect to well and would open my eyes to how things were for African American people in the past.
ReplyDeleteI choose Catcher in the Rye because I will have to read it in college. I'm not sure how I feel about Holden's strong voice, but I hope it grows on me
ReplyDeleteI chose the book The Catcher in the Rye because the intense voice of the narrator and I've also been meaning to read it lately so this gave me a chance to actually start on the book.
ReplyDeleteI chose The Chosen because I have a friend that May or may not be Jewish. I also like that Danny and Reuven aren't supposed to be friends but come together after their game.
ReplyDeleteThe book I picked was The Catcher in the Rye. I feel as if his struggle with his sanity could be easy to relate to with my struggle with OCD. It also sounds super interesting and everyone who has read it seems to love it. I think that Holden is an interesting person. The way he forms sentences and repeats things is intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI chose the Catcher in the Rye because mrs. Bolin thought it's be a good choice. So far Holden is kind of headstrong but seems pretty lost. It's ok.
ReplyDeleteI chose Jane Eyre because it's a classic and I was interested in the storyline. Jane seems to be a headstrong character and I'd like to know where her decisions lead her within the book.
ReplyDeleteI choose to read The Bean Tree. I picked to read this novel because I thought I could relate to the main character because she lived in a small town. So far I am really enjoying this book and I like how it jumped right into the plot.
ReplyDeleteI choose the book Emma by Jane Austen because I like her work and I think the main female character will show how some women in that time period were becoming more independent and didn't always need a man.
ReplyDeleteI chose I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings because I like to read about the lives of others. Knowing that someone actually went through what is happening just makes me want to find out how it all ended up even more. Plus, the cover is really pretty. So far, the book is a bit sad, but I really like the way it's written and how the author's personality is already showing.
ReplyDeleteI chose The Catcher in the Rye because I have heard that it is a great book. I enjoy learning about how other people think, and the first point of view should give me a good insight on Holden's mind as I get further into the book.
ReplyDeleteI chose to read Jane Eyre because it was recommended to me to be a great book. Now that I've read into it more, it's interesting to see the situation that she's been placed in and the beginnings of how she wants to break out of it.
ReplyDeleteI chose to read The Bean Trees because it had the closest description to myself. I like the storyline so far because it jumped into exciting parts right away.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book The Chosen because I may or may not be Jewish and it looked interesting. I think that the book so far is very detailed and specific. I also like the main characters and how they become fwiends.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book the Bean Trees. I did not choose this book for any specific reason. So far this book has been very interesting and I can't wait to see what happens next. Especially with Turtle.
ReplyDeleteI decided to read the Bean Trees because the idea of the modern-day time and setting appealed to me. I haven't gotten too far into it yet, however I am already liking the tone and the narrator's personality.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I chose this book because Mikah said it's supposed to be good. So far in the book I enjoyed how the two main characters became friends.
ReplyDeleteI chose I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings because I really enjoy reading autobiographies, and I think Maya Angelou's story is very interesting. I haven't gotten very far into the story, but I am enjoying the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI chose a Separate Peace because I have been interested in World War II for a while and when I was reading about the book I noticed that the book is telling a story that took place during World War II.
ReplyDeleteThis is Nathan Sparks. My name is Esteban's fault
ReplyDeleteI selected A Separate Peace, and I picked it because of my interest in WW2 and my similarities to the protagonist. So far the story has been good, but I haven't read too much into it.
ReplyDeleteI selected I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I picked it because the story seems interesting and Mrs. Bolin recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI selected Emma because it seemed very interesting to me.Jane Austen is also one of my favorite writers.
ReplyDeleteI chose I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings for several reasons. I really enjoy autobiographies and knowing that what I am reading is actually real and has happened to someone makes me more interested. Also, I thought by reading it, I would learn to be more empathetic and I would get the opportunity to explore African American culture in a different sense. It was recommended to me by a teacher and so far, it is proving to be a good choice even though I am only as far as the background information and exposition.
ReplyDeleteI chose Emma because I did not think the other personalities matched. At first I though Emma was like me because she is smart, artistic, and witty, but as I have read further, I realize she is really egotistical and that is nothing like me. She is full of herself for being pretty and higher up in society. I really hope she changes as she "comes of age."
ReplyDeleteI picked "The Catcher in the Rye", because my friend recommended it to me about two years ago, and my mom had a copy in her closet for some mysterious reason. The protagonist's vocabulary was, shall we say, interesting and unique to what I usually read.
ReplyDeleteI decided to read "The Bean Trees" because It sounded like an interesting story and I prefer more modern literature
ReplyDeleteI chose "Jane Eyre" because after looking at all the options, Jane Eyre was the protagonist I feel I can best understand and relate to. I'm still at a pretty early point in the book, and, so far, I really like the protagonist, but the plot is still in a pretty early stage.
